The Benefits of CBD Oil, From a Scientific Perspective
and Our Humble Opinion
CBD Oil, or Cannabidiol, is fast becoming a popular ingredient in homeopathic health and skin care remedies. Even celebrities are jumping on the trend. Karla Welch, a stylist to the stars, told The New York Times that she uses CBD oil-infused products on her stars’ feet to prevent soreness when they walked the red carpet.
But those are celebrities… and Hollywood is known to be a little… adventurous. That’s not our style.
We’re a company with family values.
We do not use just any ingredient in our products. Before selecting an ingredient, it has to have a purpose. It must provide the best health benefits, it must be natural, and it must be safe to use on our sensitive skin.
There are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to CBD Oil. It makes sense: CBD oil is derived from the cannabis plant-- the same plant that produces marijuana.
There are, however, many important differences:
First of all, our sourced CBD oil is derived from industrial hemp-- a derivative of the marijuana plant that has been legalized in thirty-five states.
The active ingredient in marijuana that causes a person to become high, Tetrahydrocannabinoids (or THC), is much lower in hemp than it is in marijuana. Hemp contains less than 0.3% THC while marijuana contains 5-10% or more.
One of Many Components
In addition to THC, there are actually over 100 active components (or cannabinoids) is the marijuana plant. CBD is one of these cannabinoids. Unlike THC, it doesn’t produce the psychotropic effects that we associate with marijuana.
In fact, CBD is very safe
The World Health Organization states that CBD does not pose a risk for abuse or dependency and “there is no evidence of public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”
CBD doesn’t get a person “high,” and it isn’t habit-forming. What it does offer is so much better and more important. Recent studies and experts have claimed CBD can help treat a variety of health conditions, including:
But research on CBD in the treatment of serious health conditions is relatively new. There is far more conclusive evidence about the benefits CBD has on your skin.
CBD and Pain Relief
People are convinced. Chiropractors and massage therapists are using it in their practice because they find that, applied topically (to the skin) CBD is an “effective means of relieving pain, and soreness” and AARP reports that many baby boomers are choosing to use CBD for inflammation and pain management related to arthritis and other age-related issues.
CBD and Your Skin
The benefits of CBD are not limited to muscle soreness. The qualities that help reduce inflammation and pain in muscles and joints is also helpful in alleviating many skin conditions such as age-related wrinkling and dullness, acne, eczema, and psoriasis.
How? CBD contains omega-6 fatty acids, gamma-linolenic acids (GLA) and other great substances that encourage skin and hair growth and new cell generation. The linoleic acid and oleic acids in CBD oil help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. And, finally, CBD oil is a great moisturizer, helping to balance and regulate oily skin so that pores don’t become clogged.
For those of us with more severe skin issues like psoriasis and eczema, CBD offers good news. The National Eczema Association reports that that CBD has antimicrobial and anti-itch properties. It works to reduce itchiness by inhibiting mast cell activation. Mast cells are immune cells that trigger histamine release (the stuff that causes itching and inflammation). In a human trial, CBD improved skin-related itching (and the loss of sleep caused by skin irritation) in 60% of the subjects.
CBD and HomeStyle
If we’re going to offer our customers the best products for their skin care needs, we have to use the best ingredients. This has always been our mission. So, once we learned all about CBD and tested it ourselves, we knew we had to add the oil to our product line.
Our Personal Experience
Laura discovered CBD oil while pregnant with Matthew. She was suffering from terrible sciatica and couldn’t find relief. After learning about the scientifically proven-benefits of using the oil in massage and getting approval from her holistic midwife, she gave it a try. It worked so well she became a believer!
She also used it to help with the round ligament pain she experienced during long shows that required her to do a lot of standing and walking. Laura only needed to apply CBD Body Butter twice and, for the first time in this pregnancy, she had a pain-free show!
Laura noticed that her sensitive skin would break out into hives after doing any sort of house painting. She would be stricken with this painful rash for nearly two weeks. Yet, when she began using CBD soap after painting, her symptoms disappeared after two days!
About our Organic CBD Oil
Our CBD Oil is organically grown in a cruelty-free and sustainable manner from licensed U.S. farmers. The plants that we use are grown at very high altitudes-- a process that produces considerably higher levels of CBD and Terpenes, making our CBD oil incredibly effective.
The Organic CBD oil is extracted using the same process we use in some of our essential oil extraction-- directly from the entire plant, utilizing a Co2 process that is done without the use of harsh chemicals. This extraction process maintains CBD’s stronger medicinal properties because it is the purest form of extraction.
Not all CBD producers use such strict guidelines for extraction. This is why not all CBD oil is the same. Cheaper oils are usually gathered through Steam Distillation -- a less expensive and quicker procedure that yields less potent, degraded CBD oil.
Our farmers are licensed professionals who specialize in pure CBD oil extraction. With every batch of oil we purchase, we receive a certificate of analysis-- ensuring that the oil we use in our products is always the best quality on the market.
